Hawaiian Heirloom
Historically this
style of jewelry has its roots in Victorian England. The Hawaiian Monarchy
had a very close relationship with England. Black Jet, Morning Jewelry,
Sentimental Jewelry with floral engraved motifs were very popular in England
and United States. With the exchange of information, and fashion between
Hawaii, the United States and England this style of Jewelry evolved in
Hawaii. As far back as 1867 engraved jewelry was worn by the Ali'i (royalty)
of Hawaii. The english script style lettering and Victorian style motifs
are easily recognized in Hawaiian Heirloom Jewelry today. Traditionally
the design is hand engraved, with exotic flowers, and maile leaf of our
islands, and the name phrase in Hawaiian as the center piece of the bracelet,
ring or necklace (pendant).
